STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICES

The Student Support Office, completed in late 2006, is a bold new structure at the Arts University Bournemouth. It accommodates offices, seminar facilities and computer rooms. The building is distinguished by its taut zinc cladding and sculptural external spiral stair linked to access walkways around a lift tower. These elements serve to animate a sheltered courtyard garden.
Due to tight budget and time constrains, industrial materials and construction techniques were exploited. The stair and external walkways were prefabricated and craned into place. The use of external circulation routes has tightened the building plan reducing the footprint and thus cost, whilst enlivening the architecture.
